This week, Lisa Coleman’s Bird Weekly challenge features owls. These photos are from a wonderful day a few years ago with Norfolk Wild Encounters—a rehoming and rescue sanctuary. We’re not in an area where we can see owls in their natural habitat so this was a real treat.
The Great Grey Owl is very impressive (and looks much bigger close up) and is non native to the UK.

I hope I remember the names correctly. I think this is a baby Eagle Owl. It was hand reared and very friendly.
It was amazing to watch the Barn Owl fly around the field. They hunt small mammals, mostly field voles, shrews and mice, and are widespread throughout the UK.

Resting after his exercise

A lovely Tawny Owl, resident in most of England, Scotland and Wales
Possibly a young Horned Owl…
And a very cross looking little Burrowing Owl

Your last photo looks like a Burrowing Owl but I don’t know if they are over there. The Great Grey Owl is on my must see list and would be a life bird that I could see here in the US.

Yes, I think you’re right. It is a burrowing owl. I’ll edit…

Yay! They are the cutest of all owls in my opinion but I’ve never gotten a photo of one & only seen them once in my lifetime. 😊

Beautiful shots of the owls, Cathy! I think we have nocturnal barn owls in our area, I’ve heard them but don’t see them.
