Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature hosted by Terri Webster Schrandt at Second Wind Leisure Perspectives.

There were a good number of goldfinches and greenfinches visiting the garden last summer, cost me a fortune in sunflower hearts 😉

Robins are around all year. Males and females look the same and each are very territorial and can get quite aggressive. The female is allowed into the male’s territory during the breeding season.

This litlle nuthatch was enjoying the sunflower seeds.
One of the juvenile blue tits from last years brood

And the parents. It was lovely to watch them from building the nest up until the babies fledged. They worked so hard.

The dunnock is a small bird, a similar size to the robin, common in gardens and woodland. They tend to keep to the bushes and hoover up the seeds dropped by birds on the feeders. Numbers have fallen since the 1970s, most likely due to loss of woodlands and hedgerows and although they are on the rise again, numbers still remain a concern.

The solitary thrush is fairly territorial, rarely straying from cover (except when he’s thirsty) and sadly another species in decline.

All my life I’ve thought that only male robins had red breasts! See how educational your blog is? 😀

So many birds, so little time! Super gorgeous captures of your backyard birdies, Cathy. Your bird feeders are FULL, and I bet those birds could barely fly away after feeding 🙂

It doesn’t take them long to empty, I can tell you 😁 especially when the sparrows are around!

Wow, Cathy, your thrush (I think) is in a gorgeous setting in the purple flowers. Lovely pictures of a great variety of birds for this post. I’m learning a lot from everyone participating in this post. 🙂

Thanks so much, Marsha 🙂 The thrush is the one drinking from the black dish, the birds in the flowers are a blue tit and dunnock. They’re our regular visitors 🙂

Shame about the falling numbers but I do think that we have the odd dunnock in our garden (North Yorkshire). Tons of robins about at the moment.
